Over in Europe Pakistan's president is swinging through the continent to meet European leaders and attend an annual economic forum.
As our Kim Duyeon reports‚ President Pervez Musharraf is there on a mission some are calling a charm offensive.
Pakistan's president has a mission in Europe: to boost his country's image.
From Belgium Sunday‚ his eight-day whirlwind tour takes him to Britain‚ France and Switzerland to attend the annual World Economic Forum.
He summed up the aim of his trip this way:
''To correct perceptions here.''
On his first overseas trip in about three months since his controversial reelection and the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto‚ Musharraf urged Pakistanis abroad to respect the laws of their country of residence stressing the importance of image and conduct.
His remarks followed reports from Spain that Pakistanis were among 14 suspected Islamic militants arrested for allegedly plotting a terrorist attack in Barcelona.
As for Pakistan's postponed general elections‚ President Musharraf claims they will be democratic.
''When international monitors observe the elections in Pakistan‚ I am confident they will find them free‚ fair and transparent. They will also find them peaceful.
British media have coined his trip a ''charm offensive'' looking to show he's still in control despite political turmoil and a spike in terrorist acts at home where months of violence have cast doubt on his ability to maintain peace for Pakistan's February vote.
